Aston Villa flew too far to the sun and got burnt and now find themselves in the unenviable position of a financial crisis.

The mounting money woes at Villa Park have been a build up of money mismanagement whilst trying to chase the golden carrot that is success and a return to the top tier of English football.

The Express and Star is reporting that the Villa Tony Xia chairman has reluctantly admitted he needs to face up to the financial crisis at the club, and admitted he can’t retain control of the Championship side if they have any hope of avoiding administration.

With more bills to be paid this month, including a tax bill that is due next Monday, as well as paying the staff, Villa look doomed.

With Xia back in the UK, Villa need to sort themselves out or they face going the way of clubs who have also been in financial disarray like Portsmouth and Coventry.

Aston Villa is an English institution of a football club, who have always been eating dinner at the table of the countries elite.

The club’s ground even used to host FA Cup semi-finals prior to them being moved to Wembley - that is some honour.

The Express and Star have also reported that the 41-year-old has received a number of offers, ranging from a full buyout to a cash injection from the sale of a minority stake.

The way the club has deteriorated is frightening and how they went about their business last season is equally so.

All the eggs went in one basket to get promoted back to the Premier League, with failure not an option.

Is that arrogance or optimism the club could have secured a return to the top flight?

Either way, it went south and now Villa are up the creek without a paddle searching desperately for cash to survive.

But thus far, offloading players who are on hefty wages has been an issue so far, with only John Terry leaving who was on astronomical wages.

The inevitable fire sale will soon be on to stave off administration and an automatic ten point deduction heading into the start of the new season.

However this ends up for Villa, it certainly is one hell of a mess right now.
