Aston Villa are weighing up a move for Coventry City goalkeeper Simon Moore, according to Football Insider

The 31-year-old has been ever-present in the Sky Blues XI since joining on a free transfer in the summer and has been a key figure as Mark Robins' team have emerged as shock play-off contenders in 2021/22.

It appears Moore's exploits have turned heads in the Premier League as it is understood that he has emerged on Villa's radar.

According to Football Insider, Steven Gerrard is keen to sign cover for goalkeeper Emi Martinez before the end of the window.

The Coventry shot-stopper is said to have been identified as a target and they're now weighing up a move for him due to doubts about landing the other players on their January list – namely West Ham United's Darren Randolph and Robin Olsen, who is already on loan at Sheffield United from Roma.

Moore has spent the majority of his career in the EFL but did serve as a backup to Dean Henderson during the Blades' 2019/20 Premier League campaign.

The Verdict

The links between Villa and Moore are a little suprising but it could be a shrewd bit of business from the Premier League club.

Gerrard is looking for goalkeeping cover, rather than competition for Martinez, and you feel that means that the Coventry man does look a good candidate.

The 31-year-old has certainly been impressive this year and is already settled in the Midlands.

Robins won't want to lose him and with his contract set to run until 2024, the Sky Blues can be strong in negotiations with Villa.

However, if a significant bid is made then you feel they would be foolish not to consider.
