The play-off final takes place tomorrow afternoon as Aston Villa and Fulham battle it out to return to the Premier League.
The Villans have been away since 2016 whilst the Lilywhites have been out of the top flight since 2014, and both feel as though that’s been more than long enough.
Certainly, it should be a game full of entertainment and drama and it could fall to one of the two men in this feature to make the all-important difference.
Both Lewis Grabban and Aleksandar Mitrovic arrived at their respective clubs on loan in January and have embarked on strong spells since.
The former, of course, finished as one of the highest scorers in the league thanks to his work at Sunderland as well in the first half of the year, but it’s Mitrovic who has the most goals in the period they’ve been in their current colours.
Similarly, it’s the Serb who’s taken more shots and made key passes in the last few months, whilst Grabban just about edges the dribble count – though neither figure here is particularly significant.
Both sets of stats suggest we’re dealing with two out and out marksmen who are purely on the pitch to fire the ball into the back of the net – though Mitrovic at least does have that physical power to bring others into play.
What’s obvious, though, is neither need many chances to stick one away and, with this game one of the closest of them all more often than not, whoever’s got their shooting boots on tomorrow could decide the result.
