Aston Villa will make another move for Swansea City centre-back Mike van der Hoorn in the summer, according to the Sun.

Dean Smith tried to bring him to the club during the January window but was put off by the £10million price tag slapped on him by Swansea.

But the Dutchman's current contract is set to expire at the end of the season and Villa are apparently prepared to wait until the summer to sign him on a free transfer.

The 26-year-old made the move to South Wales in the summer of 2016, going on to make 75 appearances for the Swans.

He has been a key part of Graham Potter's side this season and the Swansea boss will no doubt try to persuade him sign a new deal between now and the end of the campaign.

Villa suffered another disappointing result on Saturday, drawing 0-0 against strugglers Reading at the Madjeski Stadium.

It is a draw that leaves them in ninth place but still just four points behind Bristol City who currently occupy the final spot in the play-offs.

The verdict

This would be a brilliant signing, especially on a free.

He is the exact sort of centre-back they could have done with in January, but it is hard to blame for not shelling out £10million.

There needs to a be a bit of a long term approach with Dean Smith so waiting until the summer should not be an issue.
