Aston Villa to offer star chance to extend Villa Park stay

Alan Hutton will be offered fresh terms by Aston Villa this summer, no matter what division they find themselves in next season.

Steve Bruce’s side have reached the Sky Bet Championship play-off final, with Hutton a key part of the side that has reached Wembley.

However, the 33-year-old Scot is out of contract at Villa Park in the summer, with speculation surrounding his future.

According to the Telegraph, Bruce is desperate to tie Hutton down to fresh terms in the summer and a contract will be handed to the full-back, even if promotion isn’t achieved at Wembley.

Hutton has featured on 32 occasions across all competitions, featuring at both right-back and left-back.

The ex-Scotland international’s impact in Villa’s play-off semi-final victory over Middlesbrough was excellent, with Hutton man-marking Adama Traore and limiting the winger’s impact over the 180 minutes.

Villa progressed through to the play-off final thanks to a 1-0 aggregate victory.

Mile Jedinak was Villa’s hero, with the Australian midfielder’s first-leg header securing their passage to Wembley.

Fulham, who finished third in the Championship table, await Villa at Wembley, with both sides just 90 minutes away from a Premier League return.

The Verdict

Hutton deserves a contract extension at Villa Park, after a fine year of individual performances.

The 33-year-old has been a key part of Bruce’s side this season, with the manager’s eagerness to keep Hutton around hardly a surprise.

Hutton’s performances over the 180 minutes in the play-off semi-finals has only boosted his chance of agreeing a new deal, which should now be priority for Villa ahead of July.
