According to a report in the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa will continue to assess Jonathan Kodjia in the coming days, with the striker remaining an injury doubt ahead of Saturday’s trip to Queens Park Rangers.

Kodjia picked up an ankle injury in last month’s Second City derby against Birmingham City, which forced him to sit out clashes with Preston North End and Sheffield Wednesday prior to the international break.

Villa will now assess Kodjia, who was the club’s top goalscorer last season in the Sky Bet Championship, to see if he is fit enough to make his return when Steve Bruce’s side travel to Loftus Road to face QPR on Saturday.

Kodjia has found the net on just one occasion so far this season, in what has been a frustrating campaign for the 28-year-old, who missed the opening months through injury.

Keinan Davis and Scott Hogan deputised in Kodjia’s absence against Sheffield Wednesday, and the likelihood is Bruce will once again turn to at least one of the duo for Saturday’s clash with QPR.

Villa head to London in sixth, looking to strengthen their grip on a place in the play-off zone.

The Verdict

It will be a huge boost for Villa if Kodjia is fit enough to travel to Loftus Road for Saturday’s clash, but Bruce will not want to risk the striker ahead of a gruelling period.

The run of fixtures between now and Christmas will be vital, as the Championship table will begin to really take shape.

Villa will not want to lose Kodjia long-term, so a conservative approach will be expected from Bruce, as the striker returns from yet another injury setback.
