Aston Villa to appeal against Henri Lansbury suspension

Aston Villa have revealed this afternoon that they are going to appeal Henri Lansbury’s red card on the grounds of wrongful dismissal.

The midfielder was part of the side that drew 0-0 with Middlesbrough last night but was handed an early bath after he was judged to have committed a foul on Marvin Johnson.

Certainly, many would agree with the fact that it was a foul but some would also say that it was not a challenge worthy of dismissal and clearly Villa are feeling that way – as they have revealed on their Twitter account:

The midfielder has already been in and out of the side this season but he does have some class about him so it makes sense that Villa want him back as soon as possible.

Indeed, with them currently in a pretty poor rut of form they need that bit of magic to help unlock the door – particularly after two 0-0’s – and so a successful appeal will be wanted by the Villans.

Whether they are successful or not, though, remains to be seen with Villa’s next game away at Barnsley on Saturday evening.

The Verdict

It’s worth appealing this one because you did feel that on another day Lansbury might have been given the benefit of the doubt with his challenge.

It’s up for debate whether the FA will budge, though, as the decision was also not stone-wall wrong and so they’ll likely keep the suspension in place.
