Aston Villa target and Premier League winner Robert Huth has been giving an update on his current injury situation, as he begins another month without a professional contract.

The German defender has been heavily linked with a move to Aston Villa, a side in desperate need of a centre back for the autumn months, but he's revealed he won't be going anywhere after picking up an injury whilst training at Championship rivals Stoke City.

“I’m on my way to recovery. I got injured while I was training with Stoke, so I’m just taking my time off now just to recover and see where I’m at after that,” Huth told Goals on Sunday, reported by Birmingham Live.

He also revealed that despite wanting to get back into the game, he wasn't willing to put a timescale on his recovery.

"At the moment I’m just trying to get healthy and pain free, and then if something comes up that’d be great. I think the second you put a time-frame on it [recovery] then you rush through the rehab in trying to get back fit. I’ve just got to let it be for now and then I feel ready to go, I’ll give it a go."

Huth is a three-time Premier League winner who has been without a club since leaving Leicester City this summer.

The Verdict

Huth would bring experience, leadership and of course, quality to the Villa defence. He can't bring any of that whilst he is injured, which will pain Steve Bruce immensely.

Time is running out to secure a move for one of the free agents doing the rounds. Steven Caulker, James Collins and John Terry are all without clubs, but Steve Bruce is running out of something far more precious; time.
