Yannick Bolasie made the bold claim earlier this week that former Aston Villa teammate Jack Grealish is the best player currently in the Championship.

Bolasie was playing alongside Grealish whilst on loan at the club from Everton, but has since had his loan spell cut short, in favour of joining Belgian giants, R.S.C Anderlecht.

Villa's talisman has since responded to that claim in a post on his Twitter account:

Grealish has been sidelined with a shin injury sustained in their draw with West Brom in early December, but he is line to return to the squad for their game against Stoke City this weekend.

His absence has certainly been noticeable in this Villa side, with Dean Smith's men struggling to create chances for Tammy Abraham.

This has led to a poor run of recent results which has seen Villa's play-off chances hanging by a thread heading into their game against the Potters.

There will be much debate amongst supporters from all the Championship clubs that will argue whether Grealish is the best player in the Championship, but he's certainly up there.

On his day, Grealish has the ability to unlock opposition defences with ease, and his return will come at the perfect time for Aston Villa as they look to return to the Premier League.

The Verdict

He's up there with the best.

Grealish makes it look so easy when he's on the pitch, and Bolasie is spot on with his claim as I think the midfielder is easily one of the best in the league.

He's up there with the likes of Pablo Hernandez and Teemu Pukki for sure.
