Aston Villa have been unable to put a timescale on Alan Hutton’s absence, after the defender was forced from the field in yesterday’s clash with Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

Hutton picked up a hamstring injury during the second-half of yesterday’s clash at Hillsborough, with Villa unable to provide any further details at this stage, as reported by Gregg Evans from the Birmingham Mail.

Steve Bruce was forced to withdraw the Scottish full-back early in the second-half, with Neil Taylor stepping off the bench into the left-back role, as Villa stormed to a 4-2 victory in South Yorkshire.

Hutton has been a regular under Bruce this season, featuring at right-back and left-back over the course of the campaign.

The 33-year-old has featured in 26 Sky Bet Championship fixtures this season, helping Villa into the race for automatic promotion.

Following yesterday’s triumph over Sheffield Wednesday, Villa remained third, but cut the gap to Cardiff City to just a single point, with the Bluebirds not in action until today.

Villa welcome Queens Park Rangers to Villa Park next Saturday.

The Verdict

Hutton has been terrific for Villa in recent weeks, even playing out of position at left-back.

Bruce has put a lot of faith in the Scot this season and will be gutted to lose him.

Villa will have their fingers crossed that Hutton’s injury isn’t too serious, as the defender will be key during the run-in.

The Championship’s promotion race is gathering pace and Bruce will want a full squad at his disposal.
