Aston Villa only signed Ross McCormack last summer in a reported £12m deal.

After firing the goals in for the likes of Leeds United and Fulham, many believed that Ross McCormack could replicate that form for the Villains.

However, one year later and McCormack has proved to be a major flop.

Aston Villa are actively seeking to sell him but, according to a report by The Mirror, they are struggling to find suitors.

The Scotland international suffered a loss of form during his time at Villa Park and only managed to strike three goals in 22 appearances for Aston Villa.

His on the field misery was compiled with off the field problems, including Steve Bruce accusing him of being overweight and reports that he was skipping training because his front gate was broken.

In January, Aston Villa flogged him on loan to Nottingham Forest but McCormack only managed seven outings for the Reds, scoring just once.

Now, Aston Villa are trying to get rid of him permanently but are struggling to do so.

The 30-year-old still has three years left on his current deal and his reported £50,000 per week wages are proving to be a stumbling block.

As well as this, clubs are sceptical about his attitude after a number of incidents marred last season for him.

According to this report, another loan deal (late in the window) could be on the cards.

The Verdict

The Ross McCormack situation is a strange one because of his goal scoring prowess prior to his move.

His heart is obviously not in it and his attitude is rightly putting other clubs off.

If you have to shell out a sizeable transfer fee and pay his hefty wages, you need to be assured that he will be a success.

Further to this, McCormack will be 31 by the time the new season starts so a punt on a permanent transfer is unlikely here.

It looks like Aston Villa might be lumbered with him.
