New Aston Villa star John McGinn has been giving his first in-depth interview to the press since his switch from Hibernian this summer, and he's waded straight into the talking point of the summer.

The on / off transfer of Villa star Jack Grealish dominated the headlines, with a move to Spurs seeming inevitable until the final few days of the transfer window.

The 20-year old has remained at Villa Park and he's been joined by McGinn, the Scottish international who impressed on his debut against Wigan.

He's spoken of his delight at Grealish remaining at the club, if only to negate any comparisons between him and the academy graduate.

“First and foremost I’m glad I’m not getting compared to him because he’s got slightly more class than me,” he told Birmingham Live.

“It means I can just give him the ball now! Keeping him was massive because if you want to get promoted you need to keep your best players and Jack is one of the best in the country.”

Villa have started the season well, winning both of their games with Grealish and McGinn both playing all 90 minutes of the 3-2 victory over Wigan this weekend.

The Verdict

Had Grealish moved on, the comparisons would have been inevitable, if not a little unfair. Grealish is a more attacking midfielder than McGinn, more likely to weigh in with a goal, whilst McGinn is a schemer.

The two together are perhaps the most talented pairing in the Championship and with youth on their side, they could be a staple of the Villa midfield for years to come, if Steve Bruce can earn a Premier League return.
