Aston Villa midfielder Birkir Bjarnason has revealed his disappointment at not featuring in the play-off final but insisted he is happy to stay at the club next season.

The Icelandic midfielder, who is preparing for the World Cup, was an unused substitute at Wembley as Villa fell to a 1-0 defeat to Fulham in the huge game.

And, as quoted by Birmingham Live, the 30-year old told of his frustration at not being able to help the team and being left as a sub by Steve Bruce:

"This was hugely frustrating; it was especially frustrating not to play and try to do something about it. That's just how we have to go on.

Yet, he won't let that impact on his long-term future, with Bjarnason keen to remain at Villa Park with two years left on his contract.

"I'm not happy at all, but it went as it went. I have two years left on my contract at Villa and am very happy there. I'm happy with the club."

All in all, the former Basel man made 26 appearances for the West Midlands side this season.

The Verdict

You can understand Bjarnason's comments and he probably feels he would've been able to make a difference on the day.

It's more understandable given that the team were 1-0 down at half-time and struggling to keep the ball, something he could've rectified.

However, it wasn't to be but fans will appreciate that the player is clearly passionate about the team and wants to stay.
