The transfer business conducted at Aston Villa has so far this summer has been excellent, with Steve Bruce managing to fill his squad with experience, whilst beginning to move some of his fringe players away from Villa Park ahead of the new season.

One player that Villa still seem keen to move away is Jordan Amavi, who came close to leaving for Sevilla earlier this summer and is now attracting interest from France.

However, there is certainly a case for Bruce to retain to service of Amavi this summer, after some impressive performances in pre-season showed he is committed to the Villa cause.

It is common knowledge that Villa are fighting against Financial Fair Play punishments this summer, and moving Amavi on makes sense in some respect, with Neil Taylor destined to be Bruce’s first-choice at left-back.

Amavi has struggled since his move to Villa in 2015, but the 23-year-old does still have qualities that make him an asset to Bruce in the Sky Bet Championship.

It is unlikely that Taylor will manage 46 fixtures at left-back next season, and Amavi would be an excellent alternative to the Welshman, should Villa need to shake things up at any point next year.

Amavi also showed during the 2016/17 campaign that he is more than capable of playing in a more advanced role, where some feel he is better suited, due to the lack of defensive responsibilities.

Andre Green and Albert Adomah were Bruce’s only natural wingers last season, and the addition of Ahmed Elmohamady has hardly solved Villa’s problems in that particular position.

There is more to Amavi’s situation at Villa than just his ability, with his wages and Villa’s need to balance the books likely to be the reason he leaves this summer.

However, retaining the 23-year-old would not be a bad move from Bruce, with the player still having a lot to offer in the Championship.
