The summer transfer window is set to be a vitally important one for Steve Bruce and Aston Villa, with the club looking for a vast improvement on this season’s disappointing campaign in the Sky Bet Championship.

Bruce was active during his first transfer window at Villa Park, bringing seven new faces to the club in January, and the former Hull City boss has set about his clear out for the summer, with Carlos Sanchez and Libor Kozak already leaving Villa.

Ross McCormack will be expected to end his short association with the club, after a disastrous spell at Villa Park, which has seen him publically fall out with Bruce and move to Nottingham Forest on-loan.

Bruce covered many areas during the January transfer window, strengthening Villa at full-back, central midfield and in attack.

However, Villa have relied heavily on Albert Adomah and teenager Andre Green to provide ammunition for the club’s strikers, with the pair the only natural wide players at Villa Park.

Bruce will be keen to add more pace and creativity to his side, and one player who could be available at a good price is Callum McManaman, who West Brom are reportedly set to sell.

West Brom are willing to lower their £4.75m valuation of the player, who has struggled for opportunities at both the Hawthorns and Sheffield Wednesday- where he is currently on-loan.

McManaman is enduring a difficult spell at Hillsborough, and has not featured in Wednesday’s last six league fixtures, with Carvalhal looking to other options as the Owls fight for promotion.

However, McManaman has shown in the past that he is more than capable in both the Championship and Premier League, meaning he could prove to be a very good piece of business for a club like Villa.

If McManaman can rediscover the form he previously showed for Wigan Athletic, when he was man of the match in their FA Cup final victory in 2013, then he will be an asset for any Championship club.

McManaman’s signature is not likely to cost a lot, and a wealthy club like Villa can afford to take a punt on a player that could potentially fire them to promotion next season.
