Things are looking good for Aston Villa in the Sky Bet Championship, with Steve Bruce’s side finally looking like an outfit capable of a promotion push.

Villa are well placed heading into this week’s international break, sitting sixth, but the likelihood is, when the January transfer window comes, reinforcements will be needed.

One area of Villa’s squad that has failed to impress this season has been their attack, with Jonathan Kodjia and Keinan Davis both impressive, without finding their best goalscoring form. Scott Hogan has disappointed, whilst Gabby Agbonlahor seems way out of Bruce’s plans.

Here at FLW, we believe that Villa need to join Middlesbrough in the race to sign Bristol City’s goalscoring machine, Bobby Reid.

Reid has been exceptional for the Robins this season, scoring 10 goals from 19 appearances across all competitions, adding a further assist. However, the 24-year-old is out of contact at Ashton Gate in the summer, and whilst Bristol City have the option to extend that deal by a further year, the forward is attracting interest from Middlesbrough, as well as a number of Premier League clubs.

Villa have plenty of attacking options, but non of them seem to be scoring enough goals, with Conor Hourihane and Albert Adomah scoring the bulk of Villa’s goals from midfield.

The likelihood is that one of Hogan or Agbonlahor would have to leave Villa Park over January transfer window to accommodate Reid’s arrival, but landing one of the most impressive strikers in the Championship in early 2018 would be a major statement from Bruce and a sign that promotion is the club’s sole focus.
