Aston Villa are currently in what can only be described as a bit of a mess.

Sitting well in the lower half of the Championship table under new manager Steve Bruce, the club will be lucky to escape a second successive relegation on current form.

Big money signings in January have not helped at all, as Henri Lansbury, Scott Hogan, and Conor Hourihane have all failed to inspire an upturn in form for the Villans.

Steve Bruce will definitely have one eye on the summer transfer window, as he looks to shape his squad even further in the hope of mounting a better challenge next term.

One place Bruce might want to look is League One, where there are some excellent players currently plying their trade, players who are no doubt capable of playing higher up the ladder.

Here, FLW writer Lee Connor takes a look at TWO League One players Aston Villa should be looking to sign this summer…

Jordan Willis

The Villa defence is conceding way too many goals, and young Willis has been excellent for the Sky Blues since making the move in the summer.

Willis looks mature beyond his years, and crucially would not cost too much for the Villans.

Steve Bruce would be wise to keep his eye on the ever improving Willis, and could well make a move for the player in the summer.

Ben Thompson

The young Millwall midfielder has been a revelation for the Lions, and looks every bit a Championship quality player.

Another player who would love the chance to excel in a higher league, Thompson would be an ideal signing for Villa as they look to weed out the dead wood and players with poor attitude.
