Preston North End fell two points short of a play-off spot on the final day of the season, despite beating relegated Burton Albion on the final day of the season.

The 24-year-old right-back, Darnell Fisher, became a regular for Alex Neil’s side this season, despite picking up a hip injury over the Christmas period, and has drawn attention from other clubs.

The Englishman’s current contract still has two years left but Preston are prepared to offer the young defender a year extension and pay-rise to ward away any potential suitors, according to a report in the Scottish Sun.

With Aston Villa one game away from the Premier League, they will be looking to bring in fresh talent this summer. Alan Hutton, the Villans' starting right-back, has had an impressive season, but the 33-year-old needs to be upgraded in the transfer window, with Darnell Fisher the perfect replacement.

As you can see, we’re looking at back across the entire season, in which Darnell Fisher has impressed in the Preston side.

With an average of 3 tackles and 3.8 clearances per game, Fisher can bring not only youth, but stability to the Claret and Blue Army.

While the former Celtic man only has one assist in his 34 appearances this season, he is largely a conservative and sensible full-back. With a strong Villa side around him, Fisher would be bound to get forward more and add to these stats.

Fisher has been one of Preston’s stand out performers in what has been a successful season for the Lilywhites, and Steve Bruce’s side should be looking to sign the youngster this summer.
