Preston North End have been in talks with Aston Villa over the service of Andre Green, with the winger now reportedly on the verge of completing a move to Deepdale.

According to Football Insider, Preston and Villa have been in talks over Green recently, with a loan deal for the 2019/20 campaign at the stage where it could be imminent.

Alex Neil sees Green as a potential replacement for the recently departed Callum Robinson, who headed to the Premier League to link up with Chris Wilder and Sheffield United upon their return to the top-flight.

Green, 21, is a product of the Aston Villa academy, and has made 48 appearances in the claret and blue.

In that time, he’s scored two league goals, one of which came in last season’s promotion campaign. In addition to that, the winger notched an assist for Dean Smith’s side.

Despite involvement in Villa’s run to the play-offs and the Premier League, Green was in fact out on loan with Portsmouth at the start of last season.

In total during his time on the South Coast, Green made 12 appearances, returning five goals, including strikes in the Premier League Trophy against Tottenham and Arsenal U21s.

The Verdict

With Villa heading for the Premier League and bolstering their attacking options, it has only been natural that Green has been pushed down the pecking order under Dean Smith.

And, a loan move to the Championship seems logical, after Green’s tidy impact during the run-in.

At 21, he seems ready for a full season in the spotlight, and at Preston, with Robinson gone, there’s a chance for him to impress.
