Aston Villa are set to cut the loan short of Andre Green at Preston North End ahead of a January sale, according to Football Insider.

Andre Green has failed to make a consistent impact at Villa Park since breaking into the first-team in recent years, which has led to a loan move to Preston North End in the summer under Alex Neil.

The Lilywhites boss has been keen to bring continuity to his side, largely having the same core group of players from last season, helping them find consistency in performances this season.

This has meant that Neil has been reluctant to tinker with his lineup unnecessarily as they push for promotion. The side currently sit in third place having had a patchy run of form recently but have bounced back from four straight defeats with back-to-back wins.

Having signed in the summer on-loan, Green saw this move as a potential chance to nail down a regular spot at Championship level for the first time in his career, but this hasn’t come to fruition with just four league appearances so far and one goal coming in the EFL Cup.

With his game time becoming a concern, Aston Villa are in the process of looking to terminate his loan at Deepdale early so that they can complete his permanent move away from the club, according to Football Insider.

Green’s contract is due to expire in the summer, leaving his future up in the air heading into the New Year.

The Verdict

It doesn’t come as much of a surprise that Villa are looking to cut this loan short after he has barely featured for the side in the Championship this season. It is a shame for Green, however, whose future is cast into further doubt with it seeming like both his current club and parent club not keen on keeping him.

Hopefully, he will get a permanent move in January to try to kickstart his career again after showing promise in his Villa cameos.
