Aston Villa could be set to make a shock move for Man United midfielder Michael Carrick, according to a report by the Mirror.

Despite the report claiming Carrick has no intention of leaving, the Championship club are keen to make a move for the England man, who is also wanted by Premier League Leicester and West Brom.

Carrick has seen his time on the field this term cut down due to a few niggling injuries and Jose Mourinho going with other options in the centre of the park, and Villa manager Steve Bruce is keen to add the experienced former West Ham man to his ranks.

The Villans have seen their form improve over the past few months as Bruce has managed to turn things around and get the club challenging for promotion back to the Premier League, and Carrick could be the ideal signing for the club in January if they could pull it off.

However, with Carrick still harbouring aspirations of finishing his career with the Rd Devils, a move could be unlikely. Bruce though will no doubt chance his luck, and the thought of adding someone like Carrick to his squad in the winter window will be enough motivation for him to try and press ahead with the deal.

Villa fans, what do you think to this news? Would this be a good signing? Let us know in the comments!
