Aston Villa set to make move for 23-year-old Italian under-21 international

Aston Villa are one of three clubs chasing Juventus goalkeeper Nicola Leali, according to media outlet HITC.

Spanish duo Leganes and Deportivo La Coruna are also plotting a bid for the 23-year-old stopper and the latter is apparently Leali’s preferred choice.

Recently relegated Midlands giants Aston Villa will be hoping to bounce back quickly and a new goalkeeper is high on their priority list. Brad Guzan and Mark Bunn both juggled the responsibility last year without inspiring much confidence. New manager Roberto Di Matteo will hope that his Italian links will help persuade Leali to move to England.

Leali started his career at Brescia where he made 17 appearances before signing for Juventus in 2012. Since then he has failed to make a first team appearance and has been farmed out on loan to Virtus Lanciano, Spezia, Cesena and Frosinone.

He has also represented Italy at every youth level between under 16 and under-21. The 6’4” goalkeeper’s contract still runs until 2019 but he might have to move away from Juve to reignite his stalling career.

Aston Villa fans – what do you think? Would Leali be a good signing? Do you need a new goalkeeper? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
