Aston Villa have rejected offers from six different Championship clubs for striker Keinan Davis, according to Football Insider.
Football Insider claim that Queens Park Rangers, Huddersfield Town, Fulham, Sheffield Wednesday, Swansea City and Preston North End have all tried to sign the striker on loan ahead of the transfer deadline on Thursday.
Villa manager Dean Smith had considered sending the player out on loan to allow him to gain more experience, but has now decided to keep the striker at Villa Park and believes he could have an important role to play for the club this coming season.
Davis came through the academy at Villa and made 44 appearances for the club so far in his career, scoring three goals.
The striker made seven substitute appearances for Villa in all competitions last season, but found himself behind the likes of Tammy Abraham and Jonathan Kodjia in the pecking order at Villa Park.
There’s no doubt that Davis is a talented player, but I must admit I’d be surprised to see him given a proper chance for Aston Villa this coming season, especially given the signings the club have made this summer.
I can’t see him starting many games in the Premier League this season, especially when you consider that he didn’t start a single game in the Championship last term.
Perhaps he would have been better off going out on loan, but it seems Smith is determined to keep the striker at Villa Park and hopefully he gets a chance to prove himself in the top flight this season.
I think he’d be a decent signing for most teams in the Championship and he could really benefit from a full season in the second tier, as it would allow him to gain some valuable experience.
