Aston Villa, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Besiktas are all interested in signing former Brentford defender Yoann Barbet on a free transfer this summer, according to reports from Turkish media outlet Asistanaliz.

The 26-year-old has been a fantastic servant for the Bees over the last four years, making just shy of 120 appearances for the West London club since joining from Niort in 2015.

But the central defender is now on the lookout for a new club, having been let go by Brentford upon the expiry of his contract at Griffin Park

The Frenchman is now attracting a host of high-profile clubs, with reports from Turkey claiming that Besiktas, Wolves and Villa are all eyeing up a bargain move for the defender.

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith will be no stranger to Barbet having worked closely together during their time at Griffin Park, and his ability to play as a centre-half or as a left-back would make him a very useful option for any club.

Wolves and Besiktas are also believed to be interested in the towering defender, as both sides prepare for life in the Europa League next term.

The Verdict

I think Barbet would be an excellent signing for any of the reported teams, especially on a free transfer.

He has been a solid unit for Brentford over the last few years, establishing himself as one of the best defenders in the division at times.

Villa will probably be seen as the most likely destination for him, given how well he played under Dean Smith during his time at Brentford.
