Aston Villa are close to completing their second summer deal, with Sam Johnstone expected to return to Villa Park in the coming days, reports the Daily Star.

Johnstone is set to snub a permanent move to Middlesbrough and link-up with Steve Bruce at Villa on a season-long loan from Manchester United.

The 24-year old is set to be Bruce’s number one heading into the 2017/18 campaign, which has led to the goalkeeper opting for a move to the Midlands over a switch to Boro.

Johnstone is well-known at Villa Park, having spent the second-half of the 2016/17 season there on-loan, where he impressed under Bruce, helping Villa to a 13th-placed finish in the Sky Bet Championship.

During his time with Villa, Johnstone made 22 appearances and kept eight clean sheets.

Johnstone is set to become Villa’s second summer signing, following John Terry to Villa Park.

The former Chelsea and England captain has opted to step down into the Championship following his release from Chelsea at the end of last season.

There has also been a major departure from Villa in the last couple of days, as Jordan Amavi completed a move to Sevilla after just two-years at Villa Park.
