Aston Villa set to assess experienced defender in the summer ahead of possible move

The Birmingham Mail are reporting that Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce wants to assess Christopher Samba for a longer period of time before making a decision on him.

Christopher Samba has been training with Aston Villa for a while now with the view of potentially earning a contract this season but Bruce wants to have Samba in pre-season training before deciding whether to snap him up for the 2017/18 campaign.

The Congolese international has been a free agent since leaving Greek giants Panthinaikos earlier in the season.

The 33-year-old would bring invaluable experience to the Aston Villa defence, having racked up 171 Premier League appearances for Blackburn and Queens Park Rangers.

In addition to this, the towering 6’4” centre half has experience from playing in France, Germany, Russia and Greece.

Bruce invited Samba to train with his side to assess his fitness levels but he could sign him on a free in the summer if he proves that he still has the legs.

Aston Villa fans – what do you think of this? Would you sign Samba? Let us know in the comments below…
