Aston Villa set to add 46-year-old to perform important role in backroom staff

According to The Scottish Sun, Aston Villa have swooped to add David Weir to their scouting team.

The Villains will appoint David Weir as a scout in their backroom staff after he controversially departed Glasgow Rangers last month.

The Scotsman will take up a temporary role which will last until the end of the 2016/17 season, according to this report, and he will team up with former Everton colleague Steve Round.

The Scottish Sun understands that Weir offered himself to Villa and only wanted a short term deal as he will look for any managerial vacancies this summer.

Rangers parted ways with manager Mark Warburton, Director of Football Frank McParland and David Weir last month, insisting that they had resigned despite Warburton maintaining that he hadn’t.

Frank McParland is now Director of Football at Nottingham Forest and Mark Warburton is expected to join him at the Championship club in the summer.

Aston Villa fans – is Weir a good appointment? What can he offer until the end of the season? Let us know in the comments below…
