I do not think there has ever been a bigger contrast in a fanbase's mood from the start of a transfer window to the end of it.

Back at the start of June, Aston Villa were getting ready to sell their star men in order to stay financially stable, after failure to win the play-offs meant they could not afford many of their players.

Their fans watched on as other clubs strengthened, preparing for a dismal season.

But then, new owners swooped in and gave the club hope, and now, optimism is creeping back into the team.

Star men have been retained, most notably in the form of Jack Grealish, and they look set to complete a trio of loan transfers that will make them real contenders.

Here is a round-up of the latest news at Villa Park.

A huge statement signing

There is still plenty happening in terms of transfers at Aston Villa at the moment, most notably the hijacking of Middlesbrough's move for Yannick Bolasie, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The 29-year-old was all set to move to the Riverside, but Steve Bruce intervened and he now looks set to move to Villa Park instead.

A proven performer

Also looking likely to join the winger is Southampton full-back Matt Targett, who enjoyed a hugely successful spell at Fulham last season, winning promotion to the Premier League.

The icing on the cake

The final name that Bruce is looking to bring in before the deadline is Chelsea's Tammy Abraham, who has proved during a loan spell with Bristol City that he is a real force in the Championship.

In terms of departures, Ross McCormack, 32, looks set for another move away, with Rangers his most likely destination on a season-long loan.
