Sky Bet Championship side Aston Villa have joined West Bromwich Albion in the race to sign AFC Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings on loan, according to reports from the Daily Mail.
The 25-year-old has endured a difficult time at the Vitality Stadium since his £8million move from Ipswich Town in 2015 - the defender has made just sixteen starts for the Cherries during a three-and-a-half year stay that has been plagued with injuries.
Mings, who has made just two league starts for Eddie Howe's men this season, could find his game-time become even more limited, with the South Coast side reportedly closing in on the signing of Chris Mepham from Brentford.
Reports have now emerged that as well as West Bromwich Albion, Dean Smith's Aston Villa have joined the race to sign the towering defender on loan until the end of the season.
The 25-year-old would be of much use to Villa, who have conceded 43 goals in the league this season, with his ability to play either as a left-back or centre-half. The Villans have been short in their defensive options this term, with the likes of Alan Hutton playing in every position across the back-line.
Villa currently sit 12th in the Sky Bet Championship table, five points off the play-off places after just one win in their last seven league games.
The Verdict
This is a move that could worry Villa fans.
Mings is obviously a very good player on his day, but after sustaining many different injuries over the last few years, Villa cannot afford to have an injury-prone player in their squad.
Another worry could be that it is a loan deal, especially after signing Kortney Hause on loan. It's about time Villa signed someone on a permanent basis.
