Northampton Town striker Caleb Chukwuemeka could be set to link up with his younger brother Carney as Aston Villa have joined the race for his signature, per Football Insider.

The 19-year-old's youth contract at the Cobblers runs out in January and it's believed that Tottenham Hotspur have recently made an approach for his services.

According to Football Insider, Spurs offered up a £1 million deal plus the services of young striker Kion Etete, who has now joined the League Two side on loan.

But now Villa are said to have entered the race for the teenager's signature and that they are trying to beat Spurs in this particular transfer battle.

Chukwuemeka featured 22 times for Northampton in League One last season, mainly from the bench and he scored his first league goal in October 2020 against Wigan Athletic.

If Villa were to complete a deal for the striker, he would be re-united with his 17-year-old sibling Carney, who made his Premier League debut back in May against Tottenham Hotspur and was also on the books at Northampton until he made the switch to Villa in 2016.

The Verdict

Many clubs have been scouting Chukwuemeka since his Northampton debut, and despite only scoring one league goal in his career so far he's definitely got some promising attributes.

There is a raw talent there that can be developed and the Cobblers may now have to accept a bid or else they risk losing him on the cheap in January when his youth contract expires - and then they will only be receiving minimal compensation.

He's still clearly a part of Jon Brady's plans considering he was on the bench for their season opener against Port Vale, however bids in the seven-figure range could be too big for the club to turn down.
