Aston Villa are rivalling both Wolves and West Ham to the potential signing of Moussa Marega according to Correio de Manha (via a report from the Birmingham Mail).

The Portuguese media outlet claim that Dean Smith's side are keeping tabs on the 28-year-old, who has been in impressive form for FC Porto.

The Mali international has 21 goals in his last 45 matches this season, and this good run of form seemingly hasn't gone unnoticed.

Although it is thought that Wolves and West Ham are said to be the frontrunners to sign the powerful forward, it remains to be seen as to whether a formal bid will be submitted in the summer.

Any potential move to Villa Park could be dependent on whether the Villans win promotion back to the Premier League this season, with Dean Smith's side preparing for their trip to Wembley to take on Derby County for a place in the top-flight.

If they don't achieve promotion, then it almost certainly rules out any potential move for Marega, who is believed to have a release clause in the region of £40m.

The Verdict:

This could be a smart bit of business by the Villans.

He's a man at the top of his game right now, and I certainly think he's more than capable of adjusting to the physical demands of English football.

It could be one that is dependent on whether Dean Smith's side win promotion back into the Premier League this season though.
