According to Football Insider, Aston Villa are upping their efforts in order to try and sign Alfredo Morelos from Rangers with them scouting him once again.

The sharp striker has scored plenty of goals in his career so far with him scoring eight goals in 13 games so far for the Gers this season.

Indeed, he looks as though he could be the kind of extra striker Villa need at the moment - particularly when you consider their current options.

Though Jonathan Kodjia is a top player to have, Keinan Davis is a young player and will blow hot and cold at times this season.

The only other orthodox striker the club has, meanwhile, is Scott Hogan and he looks very short on confidence so signing an in-form Morelos could be a punt worth taking.

Indeed, Villa were watching him when Rangers beat St. Johnstone 3-0 and it looks as though they could make a bid for him in January - particularly if his recent form continues.

Villa could certainly do with something extra in the next window as well, as they aim to get amongst the title race after a pretty poor defeat to Wolves at Molineux at the weekend.

The Verdict

Villa do need another forward and there's probably few better options than Morelos right now for where the club is in terms of finances.

For sure, they could probably afford the Gers' forward and a front-line of him and Jonathan Kodjia would likely yield a good amount of goals.
