Aston Villa remain hopeful on deal for Premier League striker

Aston Villa remain confident that they can land Middlesbrough striker Jordan Rhodes, according to The Mirror’s Live Transfer Blog.

Middlesbrough look set to re-sign Patrick Bamford on a permanent deal after the Chelsea striker’s disappointing loan spell at Burnley was cut short.

When that deal goes through, Aston Villa hope that they can bring Jordan Rhodes to Villa Park.

Middlesbrough signed Rudy Gestede from Aston Villa but were reluctant to sanction an exit for Rhodes after David Nugent moved to Derby County.

If Bamford arrives, he joins Gestede and Negredo in the striker department so Rhodes would be allowed to leave.

The Scotsman has not made the desired impact at Middlesbrough but he is a proven goalscorer at Championship level having consistently netted goals for Blackburn Rovers and Huddersfield Town.

Aston Villa will be hoping to bring Rhodes in as soon as possible with strike duo Jordan Ayew and Jonathan Kodjia at the African Cup of Nations.

Aston Villa fans – what do you think? Would Rhodes be a good signing? Let us know in the comments below…
