Aston Villa are drawing up plans to redesign parts of Villa Park.

Villa Park has been the home of Aston Villa since 1897 with several developments since then. However, certain areas need refreshing according to Operations Director Ian Dimmock, which was announced on the official site.

The stadium is one of the most recognisable in the country due to its history and size which is fitting for a club of Villa's size and stature.

As with most stadiums, though, certain areas need redeveloping in order to keep up with the modern age.

Here's what Dimmock had to say about the plans: "Due to it being closed for the majority of the season, A Block has been forgotten a bit."

"I would love to replicate that across to the other stands. I am gutted our fans aren’t experiencing that on matchday."

"We are putting some initial proposals together at the moment but I certainly think it would be a good move. A Block has nice, bright colours, an awesome look and feel that every fan would be proud of."

The Verdict

Clubs have tough decisions to make in regards to stadiums because they are a potent visual remainder of the connection with the local community and the history of the club.

Moving to a new stadium leaves the club at risk of losing some of that especially as the designs become a lot more uniform.

Modernising parts of the stadium is an effective compromise because it won't increase their revenue as much as a new stadium will, but it does increase the appeal of the stadium to younger fans as well as allowing the club to keep up with new technological developments.

It also ensures that they keep a significant place in their community which is part of what has made football important over its vast history. This project is bound to excite Villa fans because of how it will improve their matchday experience.
