Aston Villa CEO Keith Wyness has left the club, according to a statement on the official website.

It was announced last week that Wyness had been suspended by the club, with news circulating that him and owner Dr Tony Xia had fallen out over which assets needed to be sold by the club to solve the financial issues after the promotion failure.

Since then, it was reported that Wyness would sue the club for constructive dismissal.

However, the latest piece of news shows that the two parties couldn't come to an agreement so he left the club, with the club willing to defend themselves legally if needed.

They have to bring in someone who can help guide them through the tough period that is ahead of them.

The Verdict

This internal conflict just adds to the club's problems because they now have to deal with another drain of their finances if they caught up in legal proceedings.

It's fair to say that Villa's season has finished disastrously after being filled with promise in the latter stages.

Dr Tony Xia's funds have certainly helped the club, but the poor squad investment in the first season back in the Championship has cost them, and now they have immediate issues in front of them as well as serious long-term problems such as Financial Fair Play sanctions, so they are likely to have a long stay in the Championship with the Premier League a pipe dream.
