Aston Villa are set to make a decision over the valuation of Jack Grealish, after James Maddison edging closer to a £25m switch to the Premier League.

Leicester City and Southampton have been battling to secure Maddison’s service over the weekend, with the former edging closer to completing a deal, which will be worth in the region of £25m.

According to the Birmingham Mail, Villa will now make a decision on Grealish’s value, which has been well disputed already this summer.

Grealish is extremely similar to 21-year-old Maddison, with talk already that Tottenham are set to launch a £15m bid for the 22-year-old.

However, Villa value the midfielder around the £40m mark, and with Norwich set to let Maddison leave for £25m, Villa are set to hold out for a transfer-fee closer to their valuation.

Grealish was influential at Villa Park last season, scoring three goals and registering six assists, as Steve Bruce’s side reached the play-off final.

Despite Grealish’s best efforts, Villa fell short in the race to win promotion, with Bruce now preparing his side for a third consecutive year in the Championship.

Player sales are expected this summer at Villa Park.

The Verdict

Maddison’s transfer fee certainly helps Villa, with Spurs lurking with a £15m bid.

However, Villa could still be pushed to get what they value Grealish at, as the 22-year-old’s Championship impact was not as good as Maddison, who registered more goals and more assists.

Either way, the latest transfer activity at Carrow Road will surely help Villa get the most they can for Grealish.
