Aston Villa are hoping to sign right-back Saidy Janko once his current loan with Nottingham Forest expires.

The 23-year-old joined the Reds on a season-long deal from Porto and has played five times for Aitor Karanka's side this season, during which time the side have not lost.

Janko, who has also featured for Celtic and Barnsley in his career, is known for his ability to get forward and pace.

And, according to Football Insider, Dean Smith is ready to make a move for the player even though he knows it won't go through until his time with Forest is up.

However, the report also adds that Villa could face Premier League competition for Janko, with Wolves and Fulham both monitoring his progress.

Despite only joining the Portuguese champions this summer, he clearly wasn't needed and the he could be available for just £2m.

Villa actually have plenty of options at right-back, with James Bree, Ahmed Elmohamady and Alan Hutton all naturals in that role, but the latter two are now very experienced players.

The Verdict

This would be a very good signing for Villa as Janko has all the qualities to flourish in a Smith side.

He is tidy on the ball and loves to get forward. With the former Brentford boss sure to encourage attacking football from his side, Janko would be the ideal full-back.

It should also please fans that the manager is thinking about the long-term and he clearly views the Swiss U21 international as a player who could have a bright future with the club.
