Aston Villa have joined Leeds United in monitoring exciting Coventry youngster Sam McCallum.

The 19-year-old broke into the Sky Blues first-team last season and he impressed, with Mark Robins using the full-back regularly in this campaign.

And, his form has caught the eye, with the Coventry Telegraph stating that the Whites have been sending scouts to watch the player this season.

However, doing a deal for McCallum won't be straightforward, with Football Insider claiming that Aston Villa have also been impressed with the teenager.

Is this the WORST Leeds United XI from the last 15 years? We'll let YOU decide....

They say that the Premier League side are going to be getting regular checks on McCallum ahead of the January window when they could make a formal offer if he continues to impress.

That would continue McCallum's remarkable rise as he was a non-league player up until the summer of 2018 when Coventry took a chance on him. After initially impressing in the U23s, he was then given an opportunity by Robins and has established himself as one of the most exciting youngsters in his position in the EFL.

The verdict

You can understand why there are several clubs interested in McCallum as he has shown a lot of quality since breaking into the first team.

Of course, given his age, those clubs will believe that he can develop into a top player in the years to come.

Whether a move away from the Sky Blues would be the right thing to do in terms of helping him fulfil that potential is open to debate but if the offers do arrive in January it could be hard for McCallum and the club to say no.
