Doncaster Rovers have entered talks to sign Aston Villa's Callum O'Hare, report Football Insider.

It is believed that Darren Moore's side are one of a few lower league clubs interested in the attacking midfielder, but they appear to be the frontrunners to take him on loan.

The 21-year-old is quite some way down the pecking order at Villa Park after the arrivals of Trezeguet and Douglas Luiz, so Dean Smith will likely allow him to leave in order to further his development.

O'Hare's only previous loan spell came at Carlisle last season in League Two, where he made 16 appearances and contributed three goals and three assists, which could mean he is ready for the next step up.

The midfielder is very versatile and that should serve his next club well, as it has for the various Villa youth teams he has turned out for.

The 2017/18 was his most impressive spell in Premier League 2. He helped himself to 10 goals from just 15 matches, and if he can replicate that form at Doncaster - if he joins - then he could become a very important player for Moore.

The Verdict

O'Hare is a very talented player and he has all the attributes to succeed in League One, and last year's loan experience will have helped him massively.

He will have gained an understanding of what it takes to succeed in the lower leagues and he showed a good attitude throughout, and if he replicates that at Rovers he will make improvements to his game.

Darren Moore is an excellent coach too and works well with young players, so this move would benefit all the parties involved, making it an excellent capture.
