Premier League side Aston Villa are stepping up their interest in Burnley full-back Kieran Trippier and are prepared to offer a makeweight to land the former England Under-21 international, reports the Birmingham Mail.

Rumours suggest that Villa boss Tim Sherwood is set to offer out-of-favour right-back Matt Lowton as part of the bid to sign Trippier - a move that Burnley could see as an ideal transfer.

Trippier is set to leave Turf Moor this summer after rejecting a fresh contract offer from the club, and with the Clarets already expressing their interest in Lowton, the two clubs could reach an agreement that suits both parties.

The only issue in the proposed acquisition of Trippier, is that Villa are being rivalled by clubs including Liverpool and Tottenham, but Sherwood believes that the promise of first-team football could be enough to bring in the talented 24-year-old to Villa Park.

As for the sale of Lowton, it is widely known that Villa are ready to let the former Sheffield United defender go this summer as the former Spurs boss plans an overhaul of the squad. Lowton, who joined from the Blades in a £3 million deal in 2012, has been pushed down the pecking order behind Leandro Bacuna and Alan Hutton since the arrival of Sherwood.

There will be many factors that will have to be passed for this deal to go through, going from player demands to additional fees. If both clubs can reach agreements with all parties, this could be good business for both sides.
