Aston Villa prepare to interview surprise contender for manager’s job

Published

on

Former Bristol City and Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cotterill is set to be interviewed for Aston Villa’s vacant managerial position, according to Sky Sports via the Birmingham Mail.

As Aston Villa look to move away from Roberto Di Matteo’s short and wholly unsuccessful premiership as Aston Villa manager, a number of candidates have been linked with the enticing position.

Steve Bruce remains as the favourite as the unattached manager has a proven track record of gaining promotion from the Championship to the Premier League.

It is, however, another unattached manager who has been the surprise candidate linked with the managerial position, Steve Cotterill who most recently was Bristol City’s manager.

It is expected that Cotterill will be interviewed for the position after impressing the club’s hierarchy with his CV. As well as being in the running for the Aston Villa job, Cotterill is also leading the pack for the Coventry City vacancy.

Despite the fact that Steve Cotterill remains heavily in contention, it is still expected that the former Birmingham City boss Steve Bruce will be Aston Villa’s next manager.

Aston Villa fans, how do you feel about the news? Is Steve Cotterill the right man for the job? Would you prefer to see Steve Bruce? Should Aston Villa look for a manager that can provide instant success or look for a long term option? Would you prefer a completely different option to Steve Bruce and Steve Cotterill, if so, who?
