Aston Villa's financial situation could see them back out of making a move for Sheffield Wednesday youngster Sean Clare, according to a a report in the Sheffield Star.

The impressive midfielder became a key man for the Owls as they finished the season in good form, but his contract is set to expire at the end of the month, and with no sign of a new deal being agreed with the Owls, Villa were expected to move for the youngster.

However, with the financial debacle currently at Villa Park, it is reported that the club could indeed back out of any potential deal for Clare, demonstrating just how desperate things are getting for Steve Bruce's side as we head into the summer.

Clare has indeed been offered a new deal by the Owls, but has yet to come to an agreement, meaning his future remains in limbo as clubs begin to ramp up their preparations for next season by making early moves in the transfer market.

The 21-year-old is a product of the Wednesday youth system and has had to bide his time for chances. He had a successful loan spell with Carlisle, before Owls boss Jos Luhukay showed some faith in the midfielder in the end of season run in last term.
