Championship outfit Aston Villa are targeting a summer move for Wolfsburg winger Anton Donker, according to The Birmingham Mail.
The Villans will be on the lookout for talented forwards after a disappointing first season in the second tier this time around, which saw them finish 13th in the table and a hefty 18 points adrift of the play-offs.
There was much turbulence given that Roberto Di Matteo was sacked in October, and although there were both good and bad moments under new boss Steve Bruce, it was still an underwhelming campaign at Villa Park.
Nonetheless, they appear to be acting early this summer by lining up another move for 19-year-old Donker, who spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Premier League side Everton.
However, the German youth international didn’t make an appearance for Ronald Koeman’s senior team, instead playing just three times for the Under-23 squad in Premier League 2 before an ankle injury brought to a premature end his time on Merseyside.
And Villa are hoping to capitalise on some indecision from the Toffees by landing Donkor this summer, especially given that they expressed an interest in January but the 19-year-old moved to Everton instead.
And with pace, trickery, and the desire to take defenders on, he could be exactly the sort of player Bruce needs to help take Villa to the next level.
