Sky Bet Championship side Aston Villa are eyeing KV Oostende defender Bruno Godeau, according to the Belgian publication Voetbal Nieuws.

The 24-year-old defender has featured ten times in the Jupiler League for KV Oostende, helping the Belgian side climb to fourth place in the table.

The consistent performances of the former Belgian Under 21 international have attracted the attention of a number of sides across the continent.

However, it is Championship side Aston Villa who are currently leading the chase as Steve Bruce has expressed his admiration for the Belgian centre half.

The arrival of Bruno Godeau would likely to be to provide competition for Nathan Baker, James Chester and Tommy Elphick who are Aston Villa's current centre half options.

Godeau would, therefore, provide Aston Villa with a high-quality centre half as cover in case of potential injuries which could occur throughout the second half of the season.

At this moment in time, Aston Villa's interest in Godeau remains in its earliest stages, however, the Championship side may test KV Oostende's resilience with a bid.

Aston Villa fans, what do you make of the news? Would you like to see Bruno Godeau join your side? Do you feel you need Aston Villa needs to bring in defensive cover?
