Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton will leave the club in the summer upon the expiration of his contract, according to Football Insider.

The 33-year-old joined the Villains in 2011 following a three-year spell with Tottenham, but has spent three different loan spells away from the club during his time in the West Midlands.

However Hutton has established himself as an important member of the squad at Villa Park this season, appearing twenty times in the league as Steve Bruce’s side chase down an automatic promotion spot.

The former Scotland international will leave after the club decided against offering him new terms, and will seek a fresh challenge ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.

The Verdict

Hutton has been with Villa for almost seven years, but is likely to have expected to be on the lookout for a new club next season.

The Rangers academy graduate should have no shortage of offers when he eventually leaves Villa Park in the summer, with a switch back to his native Scotland or perhaps a move to the MLS potential destinations for the experienced man.

Approaching the final years of his career, Hutton still has a lot to offer, and could still prove essential in Villa’s push for promotion this season.
