It's an easy mistake to make when you see that Ross McCormack is still an Aston Villa player, with the striker currently out on loan at Australian side Central Coast Mariners.

The 32-year-old hasn't featured in a league match for Aston Villa since the 2016-2017 season.

Most recently, he is currently on loan at Central Coast Mariners, who certainly boast an interesting strike partnership this season.

McCormack partnered former Olympic gold-medalist Usain Bolt up-front in their 4-0 win over Macarthur South West United and the on-loan Villa striker opened the scoring during the win.

He was also on hand to provide Bolt with an assist for his first ever professional goal in football. The Jamaican went on to double his tally with a simple finish from close range.

McCormack spoke in an interview about Bolt and what he brings to the Central Coast Mariners side this season.

"I've found him to be a real top guy. When I arrived, he came over, said welcome and if I needed anything just to ask.

"His transformation just since I've been here, is massive," stresses McCormack.

"He needed a different type of fitness. He's used to being explosive and running in straight lines. He's had to get used to stopping and checking and building his stamina."

McCormack is expecting Bolt to be a real threat this season and outlined the attributes that the striker has at his disposal ahead of their league campaign.

'If he pulls it all together he can be some threat. He can bump guys off easily with his strength, he's got aerial presence and then there's the fear factor of his pace.

'Defenders won't want to allow him to turn or run behind them because they know they won't catch him.'

McCormack and Bolt will be hoping to take their good pre-season form into competitive action when Central Coast Mariners travel to Brisbane Roar in their opening league game of the season on 21st October.
