Ross McCormack has admitted that he is unlikely to play for Aston Villa again.

The Scottish striker scored his first goal since making a surprise move to Melbourne City on the weekend, as his side secured their third straight win to start the season.

After arriving at Villa Park on the back of several impressive seasons in the Championship, the ex-Fulham forward struggled to make an impact for Steve Bruce.

Speaking to the A-League he revealed he hasn't ruled out extending his stay in Australia when his current deal expires. “I'm not thinking about going back to Aston Villa just yet. It's no secret that it's not worked out there. We'll see if there's anything that can be done.”

The 31-year old added that it's just about playing regularly for him, having struggled for game time in the West Midlands. “If I can stay here or I can go somewhere else on loan to play some more games or leave permanently. I'm not sure what's going to happen but it's just good to feel part of a squad that's for sure.”

The Verdict

Ross McCormack was a major signing for Aston Villa at the time, but it just hasn't gone how either would've imagined since his big money move.

The fact that he has gone to the A-League proves that he is just desperate to play football and by scoring goals it will raise his profile.

Given the high-profile disagreements he has had with Steve Bruce you can not envisage McCormack every playing for Villa again, so it's down to the Scot to prove he can still cut it out in Australia and see what happens in January.
