Aston Villa midfielder, Jordan Lyden has confirmed that his 14-year-spell with the club has come to an end with the 23-year-old now a free agent.

Lyden struggled to break into the Villa first-team, but has made five appearances in total for the Villans, but has only made one start for the first-team in the last two years.

He spent the first-half of this season with Oldham Athletic, but returned to Villa after a successful period with the League Two club.

Lyden broke the news on his Aston Villa future on his official Instagram account, and was full of praise for his former club in a heart-warming message.

Aston Villa supporters will be hoping that Lyden's comments on the future of the club come true this season, with Dean Smith's side well in contention to reach the top flight.

A recent good run of form has seen Villa move into the play-off places, and they will be one of the most feared teams in the top six if they can retain their place in there by the end of this year's campaign.

It remains to be seen as to where Lyden's next move will be, but his comments suggest that we aren't too far away from finding out where he will sign for next.

The Verdict:

This is the best move for both parties involved.

Lyden was never going to be able to force his way into the Villa starting XI this season, and the club were just wasting valuable wages on him.

He'll be keen to make a name for himself at another club in the near future, but there's no doubting that he would be a very good addition to a lower league side.
