Burton Albion are set to swoop in and secure a deal for Aston Villa goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo on loan for the season, as reported by Birmingham Live.

The Brewers looked strong at times under Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink in the last campaign but ended up finishing down in 16th place after originally looking like contenders for a top-half finish.

Now, the side are out to strengthen this summer and one area that could be about to have an upgrade is their goalkeeping department. That's because the club are close to landing Viljami Sinisalo on a loan deal from Aston Villa.

The 20-year-old has never managed a league game for his parent club but has impressed for their reserve side, playing frequently and looking strong in between the sticks. He has also had a spell with Ayr United in Scotland, where he featured a further 22 times in more competitive action.

Now, he could be given the chance to prove himself in England but further down the football pyramid in League One. It would be the first time the shot-stopper tests himself in that division and he could end up their regular choice in goal for the new campaign.

Burton currently have a few options inbetween the sticks, including Ben Garratt. He's played in 76 games for the Brewers so far in his career but Sinisalo could provide real competition for the jersey and could even push the player onto the bench.

Either way, it looks like Burton are about to welcome a fresh face to the Pirelli Stadium.

The Verdict

Burton do have Ben Garratt who has played in goal for them previously and hasn't done too bad of a job but Sinisalo could really impress if given the chance for the club.

He hasn't had too much opportunity to get gametime, especially in England, as of yet and if the Brewers allow him to get onto the field then it could really pay off for the club. The signs from the youngster in the academy for Aston Villa suggest he could be a real talent and his time at Ayr was productive too.

It will be intriguing to see how he fares, at this age, in League One action and whether or not he can help Burton to climb up the division or not. If he proves to be a rock at the back for them, then it could really help Hasselbaink's side to kick on.

With the player unlikely to get Villa action either whilst they are in the Premier League, a move makes plenty of sense for both parties.
