Aston Villa’s Joe Bennett will not be moving to Sheffield Wednesday, according to a report in the Sheffield Star.
The defender, who spent last season on loan with the Owls, was all set to sign a deal at Hillsborough, however new Villa owner Tony Xia has pulled the plug on the deal, citing not selling to his rivals as the reason.
26-year-old Bennett will no remain with the Villans, but will remain 3rd fiddle to Jordan Amavi and Aly Cissokho, no doubt the the frustration of the left back.
Owls manager Carlos Carvalhal is keen to make further additions to his squad as he looks to guide the club to promotion following last season’s failed attempts at winning the Championship playoff’s.
Wednesday defeated the Villans 1-0 on the opening day of the season thanks to a Fernando Forestieri goal, and travel to recently relegated Norwich City this weekend hoping to make it two wins from two.
